Peter Power

Peter Power is Managing Director of Visor Consultants Limited, Piccadilly, London, a consultancy that specialises in helping organisations to get the very best from their staff in times of possible Crisis. He is one of the most requested global speakers / chairman on the broad subjects of Crisis and Business Continuity (BC) management and is the author of many articles on these subjects He is a Fellow of the Emergency Planning Society, Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute, Fellow of the Business Continuity Institute, member of the Institute of Risk Management and Guild of Freemen of the City of London.

Peter frequently runs in-house workshops and coaching sessions and was selected by the UK Government (Department of Trade & Industry) to write the Best Management Practice Guide on Crisis & BC Planning & Risk Management, "Preventing Chaos in a Crisis" (this guide has become one of the most requested download documents from the DTI web site): Visor has so far won three separate BC awards, mostly for individual performance.

A recently published working paper on BC issued by the Bank of England, HM Treasury and FSA also refers to Peters work, including why BC plans can fail when key Crisis Management (CM) skills are inadequate. Peter also wrote all the text on CM for the new British Bankers Association / KPMG guide and lectures world wide on all aspects of CM & BC. His name also features in the bibliography to the new BC guide - PAS 56 and in many similar guidebooks. He also talks extensively on the impact of terrorism, perception and effective Media Handling and is a regular panellist and contributor to many UK magazines on CM, Disaster Recovery, Crisis Creative Media Handling and Leadership. He is the Founding Chairman of the CM Special Interest Group for the Survive organisation, and is also engaged as a Special Advisor to a number of organisations including the Disaster Management Forum (UK), Canadian Centre for Emergency Preparedness, Continuity Professional Magazine (USA) and the BC Institute London Forum. Peter is also listed on the UK Register of Expert Witnesses.

Peter is well known as an authoritative and entertaining presenter, especially on the subject of CM where he has gained a lot of personal experience, often at the front end of events in real dramas. He occasionally lectures at Reading University and has considerable experience in running workshops on a global basis, as well as chairing conferences in academic and commercial environments. He is an accomplished after dinner speaker who draws on many years of direct experience to combine humour with valuable advice. He also wrote the British Institute of Facilities Management BC guide and was a previous award winner for BC 'personality of the year'. Peter is, in addition, the author of 'Security in Buildings' within the MBA course at the College of Estate Management Reading University.

He has a senior Scotland Yard background which includes setting up the multi agency operational management structure at the Kings Cross fire, secondment to the Anti Terrorist Branch, deputy forward control coordinator at the Libyan People Bureau siege and leading the team behind the existing police street philosophy for dealing with terrorist bombs. He is also the primary author / promulgator of the present UK Police command methodology Gold, Silver & Bronze. In addition he frequently speaks on TV & radio (most recently BBC TV Panorama current affairs programme) and is specifically quoted on the BBC web site in relation to his previous role at the scene of major incidents in London. Peter is also a founder member of the UK judging panel for BC Awards.
